Political career

Dowling began his political career when he defeated incumbent Tim Mahoney in the general election after he ran unopposed in the Republican Primary for the 51st District seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He served on the Children & Youth, Gaming Oversight, Local Government and Urban Affairs committees.[2] In 2018 he ran unopposed again and defeated Mahoney in a rematch.

Served on committee to ensure election integrity

Dowling served on a bipartisan committee put together in November 2020 to ensure election integrity in Pennsylvania.[3] On December 9 2020, twenty-seven members of the GOP requested "for special counsel to investigate election irregularities". Dowling was not one of the members signing the letter.[4][5][6][7] After a phone call from President Donald Trump some members sent a letter urging United States Senator Mitch McConnell to overturn the results of the Pennsylvania election. This letter along with other events surrounding false claims of election fraud was followed by the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021 by supporters of President Donald Trump.[8]
