About

The center was founded in 2007[5] and is headed by Dr. Mohit Bhandari.[6] It is the first hospital in India to perform endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty which is a non-invasive method of treating obesity.[7] The centre has virtual OPDs around the globe wherein the experts can get in touch with the patients and advise them.[8] The patients in the hospital are operated with Da Vinci robotic system which translates surgeon's hands into small and ultra-precise movements of tiny surgical instrument inside the patient's body. The 3d magnified vision and 360 degree wrist movement allows the surgeon to have more precision, dexterity and control leading to acceptably low complications, minus trauma rates, comparatively low pain and scarring, low infection rates, shorter hospital stay and a major cut on gastrointestinal down on gastrointestinal leaks which in total makes the surgery, a zero pain experience.[9] The hospital organized a live bariatric surgery meeting which was attended by hundred surgeons from India to learn about the non-surgical technique for weight loss by endoscopy.[10] The US based Surgical Review Corporation has designated Mohak as an International Centre of Excellence in Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery.[9] The hospital runs a joint programme with the Madhya Pradesh government to treat government employees who are overweight due to hormonal imbalances.[11]

In 2016, a man weighing 385 kilograms was operated upon through laproscopic sleeve gastrectomy method, which was first of its kind in Asia.[16] The same year the hospital was ranked as number one in the Bariatrics category in a joint survey done by KPMG and Nielsen consulting agencies.[15][17]

In 2018, a man weighing 410 kilograms was operated upon and he became the first patient in the super-obese category to survive the procedure.[18]
