Mohamed Hatem

Early life

Mohamed Hatem[1] earned a Master's degree in law at Cairo University. At the same time, he discovered the world of theater and took part in many works as an actor and director in Cairo University Theater. After graduation, he continued his pursuit of acting and directing by studying at the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts. While there, he joined a number of acting and directing workshops, including a workshop at the Young Vic Theatre in London (2012).

Acting Career:

Hatem[2][3]’s debut work as an actor was in 18 Days (2011), which competed at the Official Competition of the Cannes Film Festival. In 2012, he made his way into the world of TV acting. However, 2015 marks Hatem’s real breakthrough when he collaborated with director Mohamed Shaker Khudair in the TV series Tariqi (My Way) that paved the way for the second collaboration between them in the TV series Grand Hotel in 2016, which received audience acclaim.


Mohamed Hatem has been able to prove himself in dramas from 2017 until now with his roles in several important works, including the TV series Li A’ala Sa’ar (At the Highest Price), two seasons of Abu El A’rousa (Father of the Bride) and Nisr El Sa’eed (The Eagle of Upper Egypt), in addition to taking part in the historical drama, Kingdoms of Fire (2019), by British director Peter Webber.


At the same time, he made strides in the film industry by joining the cast of successful films such as,  Bashtery Ragel (2017) (Buying a man), Khalawis (2018), and When We're Born (2019), which premiered at El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) and took part in the Carthage Film Festival (CFF) and Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF).


Despite his new projects, Hatem continues to remain active in theater. As part of the Temple Theater troupe, he performs in prestigious plays such as The Last Supper, which premiered at the Festival d'Avignon. The play toured for four years in more than eight countries, including France, Russia, Hong Kong and the USA. Hatem performed the play MAMA, which also premiered at Festival d'Avignon (2018) and at Festival d'Automne in Paris. Recently, he performed the Arabic version of renowned playwright and French director Pascal Rambert's Cloture de l'amour (End of love), which ran at the Falaky Theater (2019) in Cairo, Egypt.
