Museum of the history of Borovichi city and Borovichi land
The Museum of the history of Borovichi city and Borovichi land[1] is one of the oldest museums in the Novgorod region of Russia. In 2016, it hosted more than 22,000 visitors. The museum was founded in May 1918 by the County Board of Education. It started as a collection of Zhukovskiy and Gogol. From 1926 to 1927, the museum was closed. In 1928 the museum reopened thanks to S.N. Porshnyakov(1889-1992) who became the first director.
Exhibits
The exhibition space was created in 2009, comprising five halls and covering the period from the neolithic age to The Revolution in 1917. As of January 1, 2017, 27,411 storage units were available.
Facilities
The museum is located in the historical part of town, in the house of an ex-mayor merchant of the 1st guild Matvey Shalgin.[2] The building was built at the end of the 19th century, in the classical style.
