Mystery Science (company)
Mystery Science is a San Francisco-based edtech company that created a digital science curriculum for elementary schools; the company was founded by Keith Schacht and Doug Peltz in 2014.[1] In 2020 Mystery Science was acquired by Discovery Education for $140 million.[2]

History
Mystery Science was founded in 2014 by Keith Schacht, who served as CEO, and Doug Peltz after raising $500,000.[1]
In June 2017, the company raised $2 million in funding from the investment firms Y Combinator, Learn Capital, Reach Capital, and 500 Startups; at this time Mystery Science was being used in 10% of elementary schools.[3]
In August 2017, the company announced a partnership with Google to deliver solar eclipse glasses and tech students about the Solar eclipse of August 21, 2017.[4]
Also in 2017, the company launched the Mystery Doug series now being watched by 1 out of every 5 children.[5]
In October 2020, Mystery Science became a wholly owned subsidiary of Discovery Education. The company was acquired by Discovery Education for $140 million after raising only $4.5 million.[2][6] Mystery Science is now being used in 50% of elementary schools.
