History

Established originally as a partnership between Hong Kong-based Sun Cupid Group and U.S.-based Noetic Inc., in the United States, NUU Mobile introduced its products to the global marketplace in 2012.[1]

NUU Mobile began an international expansion project in 2012. Since then, offices have been established in India, England, Netherlands, Japan, Indonesia and Kuwait, Qatar. In 2015, NUU Mobile opened a branch in Miami to help serve Latin American markets.

With the debut of the Konnect i1 4G Hotspot, NUU Mobile entered the portable mobile network hotspot market in 2015. The device was awarded first place at the 2016 CTIA Super Mobility E-Tech Awards.[2]

Products

NUU Mobile is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The company designs, builds and markets personal communications devices, including smartphones, tablets and portable mobile hotspots, for the mobile phone industry.

The company currently features three distinct series of smartphones: The G Series, the R Series, and the A Series. NUU Mobile also produces and markets a line of table smartphones, the T Series.

All NUU Mobile smartphones are protected by a one-year limited warranty. Each device also features two SIM card slots, expandable microSD storage, and, except for the R1, removable batteries.

Also, all of NUU Mobile's devices have been certified by Google Mobile Services (GMS),[3] making them eligible for future Android security patches and software updates.

The G Series[4] is the flagship smartphone series for NUU Mobile. The G Series includes the G4,[5] scheduled for introduction in Spring 2019; the G3+;[6] the G3[7] and the G1.[8]

The R Series [9] is a line of rugged smartphones. The R1 [10] is the first phone in the series.

The A Series [11] are mid-range offerings. The company's mid-range offerings include the A6L, which operates on CDMA and GSM networks, and the A5L, which uses GSM technology.

The M Series are entry-level smartphones featuring the M2 and M3.

The Z Series, NUU Mobile's first successful smartphone line, sold out in 2016. The X Series of phones, which debuted in 2015, sold out in 2017.

NUU Mobile also markets Smartphone Tablets.[12] The T3 [13] debuted in 2019. The previous model, T2, sold out in early 2019.

The company introduced the Konnect i1 4G Hotspot portable mobile router to the European market in 2015. The product is scheduled for debut in the U.S. in Spring 2019.[14]

Reviews and recognition

Early reviews of NUU Mobile devices highlighted many of the brand's strong points, while also providing useful criticism used to improve future models.

NUU Mobile's combination of high-quality components and affordable prices was lauded by PC Mag, which called the X1 "an excellent value for unlocked Android phones."[15]

In July 2015, Android Authority described the NUU Mobile Z8 as "a solid affordable mid-range smartphone with a lot of positives", though the reviewer noted the device was "not without its flaws" before observing that "a lot of these can be fixed with future software updates."[16]

Later in 2015, another Z8 review from The Mac Wizard observed that these issues had been resolved, noting that the Z8 "…received several firmware updates during my review term and the company promises to stay on top of big security updates."[17]

In early 2016, CNET honored the NUU Mobile X4 as one of its "Smartphones That Matter at CES 2016."[18]

AndroidGuys declared, "The people from NUU Mobile are downright genuine…There is something to be said for supporting a company with great people…You can tell the entire team has a deep understanding of what most customers actually use their phones for…" [19]

Expert Reviews gave the G3 smartphone four stars for its “snazzy design solid performance and great value.” Reviewers said the phone offers “top-notch spec performance for its price range.[20]

Video reviewer Flossy Carter called the G3 smartphone “the new budget boss.” He says the phone is a “serious contender for best budget phone of the year.[21]

Total Tech said the upgraded G3+ smartphone “is an absolute win.” The reviewer noted the phone's expanded power, “a 4,000-milliamp battery, that's amazing.[22]

In a follow-up review, Total Tech reported that the G3+ smartphone has “a nice design, it feels good in the hand.” The reviewer says, “the battery life is the all-star performer on this phone.[23]

NUU Mobile introduced the G4 smartphone at the 2019 CES Show in Las Vegas. The product received a Spotlight Award from Android Authority for “killer value at a cheap price.[24]

One video reviewer says the R1 Rugged smartphone “looks and feels like it was built for toughness.” The reviewer called the R1 “very, very durable, a great budget phone.[25]
