Nanu Eezhuthassan Sivasankaran

Nanu Eezhuthassan Sivasankaran (born c. 1956 – 17 December 2007), earlier named as Kandampully Balanarayanan, was an elephant from Kerala, known for being the tallest tamed elephant in Asia.

In the early 70's he was bought from Bihar by advocate Udayavarman from Pattambi and was named as Pattambi Narayanan. After coming to Kerala, he killed his Mahout within a month. Meanwhile, the lawyer, impatient with the elephant's behaviour sold him to KT Balan of Kandampully house and Pattambi Narayanan became Kandampully Balanarayanan. He is credited with being one of the most drug-shoted elephants in Kerala. By the end of the day, Balanarayanan's health was really bad. However, knowing all this, the Nanu Eezhuthassan group in Thrissur acquired him from the Kandampulli's. With that, Kudampully Balanarayanan became Nanu Eezhuthassan Sivasankaran.[1] The new owners tries to restore his health by giving him the best treatment and nutritious food. Unexpectedly, aged 51, Nanu Sivasankaran died on 17 December 2007 on his way to a temple festival at Lakkidi, Palakkad. At 10.6 feet, Nanu Sivasankaran was the tallest tame Asian elephant at the time of his death.[2]
