Natalia Harris

Natalia Harris (1996 – May 7, 2020) was an American model, actress, and author. She survived bone cancer aged 12, and went on to become a fashion model for leading brands and agencies.

Early life

Harris is the daughter of Dr. Egli Colon Stephens. She was born in New York and attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School.[1] In 2008, at the age of 12, Harris was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, in her leg. She underwent chemotherapy and had to relearn how to walk with an internal titanium prosthetic.[2]

Modeling career

Despite her diagnosis, Harris fulfilled her dream of becoming a model and walking the runway.[3] She was represented by State Management modeling agency[4] and walked at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Lincoln Center in New York.[5] She was a model for Foot Locker, Delta, and Laura Mercier beauty products.[6] In 2019, she was featured on the cover of Vogue Knitting magazine.[2] She was included in Project Runway a few times [7] and had a role in the off-Broadway production of Annie Warbucks.[8]

Publications

In 2019, Harris co-authored a book, Unbroken: A Mother-Daughter Journey of Resilience, Faith and Courage, with her mother.[9]

Death

Harris died in May 2020 from renal medullary carcinoma, a kidney cancer that is carried by those with the sickle cell trait.[2]
