National Digital Research Centre

NDRC is an early stage investor in tech companies based in Dublin, Ireland.

History

NDRC is an early stage investor in tech companies. NDRC invests primarily using an accelerator model through its NDRC LaunchPad and NDRC VentureLab investment programmes, providing modest amounts of capital and high amounts of hands-on support to early stage companies.

The Centre was founded in 2007 by five Dublin based third level institutions. NDRC used to be the National Digital Research Centre, but no longer carries out research and so these days refer to itself as NDRC.

In September 2013, the market value of firms emerging from the Centre was reported to have doubled to €39m during 2012.[1]

In November 2020, the management team confirmed that they had lost the tender to run the NDRC, and that the organisation would be wound up.[2]

Ownership and programmes

The Centre is owned and operated by a consortium of five Irish research universities: Dublin City University, Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, National College of Art and Design, Trinity College, Dublin, and University College Dublin.

It runs two investment programmes: NDRC LaunchPad[3] and NDRC VentureLab.[4] It was awarded "Top IT" incubator by UBI Index in 2013.[5] NDRC LaunchPad has been ranked as one of the most highly rated accelerators in Europe [6]
