Nelson Dilipkumar

Nelson Dilipkumar is an Indian film director and screenwriter who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. Nelson won the Best Screenplay Award in Norway Tamil Film Festival for his debut directional movie Kolamavu Kokila.[1] He was listed among the Promising Directors of 2018 in Times of India article.[2]

Film career

Nelson is a graduate with a degree in Visual communication from New College, Chennai. He started his career as an assistant script-writer in Star Vijay.[3] He directed his first reality show, Azhagi in 2005. He expanded his territory in producing/directing shows in Star Vijay that includes Olly Belly, Boys Vs Girls, Jodi Number One, Airtel Super Singer and the recent Bigg Boss Tamil.

In between, Nelson started his debut movie Vettai Mannan in 2010 starring Silambarasan, Hansika Motwani and Deeksha Seth which was planned to be produced by NIC Arts S. S. Chakravarthy. The movie was shelved for unknown reasons in halfway through.[4][5]

His debut movie was the dark comedy Kolamavu Kokila which he wrote and directed, and was produced by Lyca Productions released on 17 August 2018 to positive response and became a commercial success.[6][7][8][9][10] His Next film Doctor starring Sivakarthikeyan in lead role opposite Priyanka Arul Mohan to be released in 2021.[11][12]

In 2021, Nelson had signed on to direct Thalapathy Vijay's 65th film, which is tentatively titled as Thalapathy 65. The film has been bankrolled by Sun Pictures and Anirudh Ravichander has been roped in as the Music Director.[13]
