History

NRSU was established in 1969 against the practices of the student movement of the time, which they saw as defeatist and unprincipled.

The Sixth National Convention of NWPP (2014 April 4-6) adopted the Program of Peoples' Democracy as its strategic program (where peoples' democracy is seen as a step towards socialism), which was adopted by NRSU.

In February 2004 NRSU won the post of president in the Free Student Union elections at the Bhaktapur Multiple Campus. It won the same post two more times. In the last election, a female student from NRSU was the first woman to win the post of an FSU chairperson in Nepal. NRSU won minor posts in several other colleges.

Nepal Revolutionary Students' Union (NRSU) is a student organization that tries to establish a socialist educational system in Nepal, which it describes as the education model that adjoins education with productive labor, provides equal opportunities of personality development to all, respects the labor and laborer, and disapproves oppression upon mankind by mankind.

NRSU adopts Marxism, Leninism and Mao Tse-tung thought as their guiding principles and struggles for the foundation of socialism and communism. They claim to be fighting against Feudalism, Capitalism, Imperialism, Neo-Colonialism, Expansionism and all sorts of reactionary thinking, as well as Liberalism, Anarchism, Revisionism, Surrendering practices, Left and Right opportunism and Social Imperialism.

The organization believes the education sector of Nepal to be harshly affected by neo-liberal policies, which it sees as aggressive capitalism. It has participated in student movements aimed to help the working class and in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nepal.
