Nobody Knows I'm Here

Memo Garrido lives with his uncle Braulio in a small island in Llanquihue,[3] a small, southern Chilean town. While his life there is peaceful, he is tormented by traumatic memories he had as a kid. He does not communicate verbally often, which catches Marta's attention. She tries to approach him and they build a friendship that uncovers Memo's biggest secret: he was briefly famous as a singer.

As a kid, Memo lived in Miami - which is why he speaks an accented Spanish - and his father Jacinto got him a contract with a music producer who decided that even though Memo was a talented singer, his appearance was not enough to make him famous. For that reason he makes him a ghost singer for Angelo instead, another child that becomes famous for the song Nobody Knows I'm Here, which the studio had originally recorded for Memo.

A television show "Face to Face" discovers Memo and tries to reunite Angelo and his ghost singer after twenty-five years apart. Memo attacked Angelo and put him in a wheelchair for life for his fraud. Angelo never sang again after his 'accident' but he did write a book. Memo became a hermit and his father Jacinto lost all his money promoting his son's ghost singer act. Memo sings live proving that he was the voice all along, drops the microphone and walks off. Later, Marta crawls into bed with Memo and spoons.

Nobody Knows I'm Here was originally set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival,[4] where Chilean director Gaspar Antillo won in the Best New Narrative Director category. However, the festival was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5] The film was released globally on Netflix on June 24, 2020.[6]

The film was positively received by critics, who have praised its earnestness and simplicity, Jorge García's performance, and its narrative structure.[7][8]
