Northwest Washington Synod (ELCA)

The Northwest Washington Synod (ELCA) is one of the 65 synods, or dioceses, of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). It encompasses the northwestern part of the state of Washington and supports congregational mission throughout the region.

The synod council is the governing body of the synod between the annual assemblies. It is composed of the Bishop and members elected by the synod assembly.

The ELCA has partnered its synods with other regions throughout the world and the companion synod for Northwest Washington is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in European Russia (ELCER).[2][3]

Bishops in the ELCA are elected for 6 year terms and can be re-elected once. Bishops for this synod are:

  • Donald Maier (1995–2001)[6]
