Olivier Desmarais

Olivier Desmarais is a Canadian businessman. He is the son of André Desmarais and the grandson of Paul Desmarais and former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. Mr. Desmarais is Chairman and CEO of Power Sustainable Capital, a global sustainability-led alternative asset manager.  Since 2017, he is Senior Vice-President of Power Corporation of Canada.[1]

Biography

Desmarais was educated at Selwyn House School[2] for primary and secondary school[3] and holds a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science from McGill University.[4]

A member of the Québec Bar since 2009, Mr. Desmarais became Vice-President Power Corporation of Canada and Power Financial in 2017.[5] Since January 2017, he has been Senior Vice President of Power Corporation of Canada and Power Financial.[6][7][8] Through his current role, Mr. Desmarais is highly involved with Power Energy Corporation,[9][10] which has interests in:

  • Potentia Renewables;
  • Nautilus Solar;
  • Lumenpulse;
  • The Lion Electric Co.

Olivier Desmarais and his cousin Paul Desmarais III have occupied key positions within the senior management team of Power Corporation in the last years.[11][12]

Board memberships

He is a Director of Canada Life, IG Wealth Management and Mackenzie.[13] He has been Chairman of Power Energy Corporation since 2015 and is a director of Lumenpulse.

Professional memberships

In November 2018, Desmarais was named Chair of the Canada-China Business Council (CCBC).[14]

Philanthropy

He is a board member of the Montreal General Hospital Foundation,[15] and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.[16]

Olivier is a member of the Voltigeurs de Québec.[17]
