Olumba Olumba
Born Olumba Olumba Obu (1918-2003)[1] was a Nigerian religious leader who proclaimed himself to be God[2][3][4] in human form[5] and also was the founder of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star an organization which has both been described as a cult[6] and a new religion.[7] Olumba whilst alive had also been accused of practicing occultism.[8][9][10] Members of his spiritual organization claim Olumba Olumba is not entirely human but part human and part spirit.[11][12] The Nigerian bestseller book published in 1993 titled Occult Grandmaster Now in Christ, authored by Iyke Nathan Uzorma which is an exposé on occultism, described Olumba Olumba as not human but an immortal “spiritual being”[8]

Early life and biography
Olumba was born in 1918 in Cross River state which is the south-south region of Nigeria inhabited predominantly by the minority tribes of Nigeria. Olumba throughout his life had no formal education.[13][14]
Brotherhood of the Cross and Star
The organization has been described as a new religion and a cult.[6] It was formed in the year 1956. The doctrines of the organization includes reincarnation and belief in African traditional religion. In the year 2000,[15][16] Olumba transferred leadership of the organization to his son named Rowland, who would eventually rename himself from Rowland to Olumba Olumba,[17] the exact name his father bore.[18]
Controversy on vitality status
Olumba's vitality status has been a source of great controversy. The members of his spiritual organization claim he is immortal, alive and well,[19] whereas reliable Nigerian sources claim him to have been dead since 2003,[1] coincidentally, Olumba's last public appearance was in the year 2003. Three years after transferring leadership of the organization to his son. The spokesman of the Brotherhood of the Cross and the Star; Mr.Shepherd Archibong said;
“The ancient of days is above death and never dies. He is alive and existing in the dual nature of spirit and human”
Family crisis
Olumba Olumba is the father of both Helen Ibum Udoh(née Olumba) and Olumba Olumba Jr. Both siblings had internal conflicts which affected the spiritual organization negatively and resorted in a split of the organization with those loyal to Helen Ibum Udoh following her & those loyal to Olumba Olumba jr following him.[20]
