One Tree Planted

Founded in 2014 by Matt Hill, One Tree Planted's first project planted 20,000 trees.[5][10][11] One Tree Planted has since expanded its activity via collaborations with other environmental groups in the US and globally, actively participating in various reforestation projects. The organization gained visibility and public media attention over the years as climate change awareness grew among individuals and businesses.[7][6][12] According to Guidestar, in 2018 One Tree Planted had 3800 volunteers, restored 2500 acres of landscape, and planted 1.3 million trees in 13 different countries.[3]

As of December, 2019, One Tree Planted has planted more than 6 million trees around the world. Key projects included the Amazon rainforest,[7] California,[6] Oregon,[13] Indonesia, Kenya and others.[5]

In January, 2020, the charity started to participate in reforestation of Australia following devastating bushfires in Queensland, New South Wales and other regions,[14] and in July began a partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute to plant[15] for biodiversity habitats and social impact. One Tree Planted is also one of the supporters of the global Trillion Trees initiative with the World Economic Forum's 1t.org platform, with a pledge to plant 50 million trees in the United States in support of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration[16] (2021-2030).

One Tree Planted's policy is based on six "pillars" of sustainable planet environment: Air, Water, Biodiversity, Social Impact, Health and Climate.[3][4] One Tree Planted is based out of Shelburne, Vermont, and operates across four regions: North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia/Pacific. One Tree Planted acts as an intermediary for tree planting by collecting donations from individuals, businesses and other organizations then allocating the funds to its reforestation partners for specific projects. The partners (environmental NGOs, small conservation organizations, watershed groups and local governmental agencies) use the funds to plant trees in areas they are needed most.[17][2]Part of the One Tree Planted strategy is to give businesses the opportunity to do more as part of their corporate social responsibility, and give back to the environment.[5] One Tree Planted has collaborated in reforestation efforts with organizations such as the United States Forest Service, U.S. State Forest and Conservation Districts[18] GE Healthcare Life Sciences,[19] Warner Music Group,[7] DHL,[20] Astrazeneca[21] and more.[22][23][24]
