POBAL

POBAL was the umbrella organisation for the Irish language movement in Northern Ireland between their formation in 1998 and their closing down in 2019.[1] They were funded by the UK Department for Social Development and Belfast City Council.[2] They campaigned strongly since their inception on the need as they see it for an Irish Language Act to be enacted for Northern Ireland that is similar to language acts in the Republic of Ireland, Wales and Scotland.[3][4][5] Their director was Janet Muller.
