Pandamangalam

Pandamangalam, a panchayat town in Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu is at a distance of about three kilometers from Velur, a Small town in Paramathi-Velur Taluk.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Pandamangalam had a population of 5949. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Pandamangalam has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 62%. In Pandamangalam, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Temples

Pandamangalam is located near the river cauvery [which is the longest river in Tamil Nadu]. The three temples [for Lord Shiva,Lord Vishnu and Goddess Maariamman] located very close to each other in Pandamangalam makes it special.

The said Shiva and Vishnu temples are very ancient and powerful, since it is believed that the PanjaPandava stayed and worshiped here as a part of their vanavasam.

It is also said that the old name for this town is Pandavar Mangalam which has become Pandamangalam at some later time.

This small town is well connected by roads from Velur and Jedarpalayam to enable the devotees visit both Kaashi Visvanath (Shiva) and Prasanna Venkat Ramana(Vishnu) at ease.

Another significant thing about Pandamangalam is the two God's Carts [for Lord Vishnu and Goddess Maariamman],which is been pulled off during the festival time half around the town, with a huge people gathering.
