Party for Independent Veneto
The Party for Independent Veneto (Partito per il Veneto Indipendente, PVI) was a Venetist and independentist political party based in Jesolo, Veneto.
The party emerged in 2007 from Veneto Padanian Federal Republic (VPFR), a dissident group of Liga Veneta–Lega Nord led by Renato Martin (mayor of Jesolo from 1993 to 2002).[1][2] Since its founding, the leader of the PVI has been Fabrizio Dal Col.[3] In 2002 the "civic list" around Martin and Dal Col won 33.3% of the vote in Jesolo and its candidate for mayor, Francesco Calzavara, who later defected from the group, was elected in the run-off with 51.0% of the vote.[4] In 2007 Martin, who was once again running for mayor, gained only 23.4% of the vote and was not able to make through the first round, while the "civic list" obtained 20.7% of the vote.[5]
The PVI was instrumental in the organization of a "referendum for self-determination" in Jesolo, on the example of Catalan independence referendums. In the referendum, which was celebrated in September 2009, only the 20% of voters showed up, but 97% of them voted in favour of independence.[6]
