Murray has appeared in starring and supporting roles in numerous films and television programmes. He also became well known for his appearances in Television commercials for the Italian home appliance company Zanussi. Murray is a staunch supporter of his local league football club Millwall F.C., often being recognised whilst sitting in the stands. In his later years, he was a controller at a mini-cab office in Catford.

In 2018, Murray was supposed to take part in a bus trip that would raise money for Demelza, a children's hospice. However, the trip was called off last minute as Murray revealed he is receiving treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The trip included him entertaining 70 fans while travelling from Leysdown-on-Sea in Kent to Margate. Murray hopes to complete the trip late in October.[1]
