Paul Gilissen
Paulus Petrus Maria “Paul” Gilissen (28 August 1934 – 9 April 2020) was a Dutch KVP and later CDA politician.
Gilissen was born in Amsterdam, and grew up in Geleen. He was mayor of Valkenburg-Houthem (1976–1982) and Valkenburg aan de Geul (1982-1990/1991).
During his mayorship, Gilissen initially had to deal with the excesses of mass tourism to Valkenburg. Back then there were often riots with drunk young people in the entertainment center during the high season. He took firm action against that. He also tried to attract a different kind of tourist.[1]
He died in Maastricht, aged 85.[2]
