Paul Simm

Paul Simm is an English musician, composer and record producer, known for his work with Amy Winehouse,[1] the Sugababes and Neneh Cherry.

Biography

Paul Simm, born in Birmingham, discovered the piano aged five, mostly self-taught he rapidly progressed, performing regular gigs by age eleven. He later took up trumpet and was invited in 1990 by David Hinds of Steel Pulse to play & arrange horns for Grammy Award nominated album, Victims.

At twenty Simm, now London based, continued as a session musician playing alongside Carleen Anderson, Pops Staples, Mica Paris, Baby D, Charles & Eddie and MC Solar.

He swapped touring for the studio full-time at twenty-seven, working on All Saints' debut album and co-writing and producing tracks for the Sugababes, including BRIT Award nominated single "Overload", which reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart. Simm also co-wrote Siobhán Donaghy’s top 20 debut single "Overrated" and has written &/or produced tracks for Amy Winehouse, Neneh Cherry, Mutya Buena, G. Love, Groove Armada, Beverley Knight and Tom Jones.

In 2002, Simm along with co-writers McVey, Lipsey and Howard was awarded writing credits by ASCAP for the song "Make Over", which appeared on Christina Aguilera's Stripped. The track was originally listed as having been written by Aguilera and Linda Perry, but critics[who?] claimed that it had borrowed heavily from the Sugababes' song "Overload".

In 2005 Simm was commissioned to compose music for Gucci’s pour Homme II campaign.

Virgin Souls

Simm is a member of band Virgin Souls, along with Cameron McVey, Silvio Pacini and Neil Pearson. The band was signed by Pete Tong to London Records and album 162 released in September 2003.

Current work

Simm co-wrote 7 tracks for the 2014 Neneh Cherry album, Blank Project.[2]

"Good Life" a song co-written with artist G.Love is released on his new album in 2014.
