As of 2020, Paytm First Games claims a user base of more than 80 million.[1]

History

Paytm First Games was launched by the Indian e-commerce, payment system, and financial technology company Paytm in 2017. With Mr. Sudhanshu Gupta as its Chief Operating Officer, it started as an element of engagement with casual games in the Inbox section of Paytm's application. By the end of 2018, Paytm launched its stand-alone application with elaborate games of skill and quizzes where users could play and win cash prizes.[2] In July 2019, the app was launched on Google Play Store. The app was named Gamepind which was later rebranded as Paytm First Games in June 2019.[3]

Brand Ambassador

Paytm First Games roped in Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador to promote its fantasy sports game.[4] A TV ad was launched before the commencement of the Indian Premier League 2020 to announce the association of Sachin with the brand. The ad was centered around the early years of Sachin and the right choices he has made to become a cricketing legend.

Partnerships

In August 2020, Paytm First Games associated with 2-time champions of Caribbean Premier League team Jamaica Tallawahs.[5][6] The association included the brand logo on the team jerseys and also an e-meet and greet with the fans.

Paytm First Games became the associate sponsor for teams FC Goa[7] and Chennaiyin FC[8] for the 7th season of the Indian Super League in November 2020. The sponsorship allowed the brand to showcase its presence in the team jersey and visibility at the stadium.

After launching their Esports vertical in Feb 2020, Paytm First Games announced a slew of partnerships with global game developers and publishers. In April 2020, the company concluded India's largest “Clash Royale” Tournament and announced year-round esports tournaments.[9][10] Furthermore, Esports Players League (ESPL), an esports tournament network and platform, had announced a partnership with Paytm First Games to make its entry into Indian esports during the same period.[11]

In May 2020, Paytm First Games partnered with online shopping marketplace Daraz to expand into South Asian markets of Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar to launch their premium gaming app.[12][13][14] In the same month, the Indian sports community platform Rooter entered into a strategic partnership with Paytm First Games to grow cricket, esports, fantasy sports, and gaming ecosystem by creating integration across gaming and content.[15]

The company also teamed up with Riot Games to bring India's first Teamfight Tactics mobile tournament in June 2020. Garena, an online game developer and publisher, has also teamed up with Paytm First Games to host the “first-ever” Free Fire India Solos 2020 tournament (FFIS).[16]
