Peter Moore (author)

Peter Moore[1] (born 1983) is a British historian, lecturer and podcaster. He lives in London. He is the author of the Sunday Times bestsellers, The Weather Experiment and Endeavour.

Career

Moore studied at Durham University and City, University of London. His first book was Damn His Blood, a non-fiction account of the Oddingley Murders that was read as a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week.[2]

His second book, The Weather Experiment, told the story of the invention of the modern weather forecast through the life of its founder, Robert FitzRoy. It was a Sunday Times bestseller and was chosen by the New York Times as one of the 100 Notable Books of 2015.[3][4]

In 2018 his third book, Endeavour, was published. It narrated the history of HM Bark Endeavour, the ship James Cook sailed on his first voyage to the South Seas (1768-1771). Endeavour was a Sunday Times bestseller.[5]

Moore teaches Creative Writing at Oxford University.

History Podcasting

Moore founded the history podcast Travels Through Time[6] in 2018. Guests have included Michael Palin, Ken Follett, James Shapiro, Catherine Nixey and Judith Herrin. In 2019 the Evening Standard chose Travels Through Time as one of the top history podcasts of 2020.[7]
