Philipp Kircher

Philipp Kircher is a Professor of Economics at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland[1] and at the European University Institute.[2] He is the first recipient of the Wiley Prize in Economics and has been described as one of the "UK's young, inspiring economists."[3] He also joined the Economics and ILR faculty at Cornell as of the Fall Semester 2020 and has taken over the directorship of the Labor Dynamics Institute.[4]

Kircher's area of focus is on labor markets and inequality, and on HIV/AIDS. His many articles have been published in economic journals such as American Economic Review, Econometrica, the Journal of Political Economy, the Review of Economic Studies and the Quarterly Journal of Economics.[2][5] In 2016 he delivered the Annual Public Lecture for the Royal Economic Society.[3]

Kircher studied at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee for his masters degree in 1999 and at the University of Karlsruhe for his degree in Industrial Engineering in 2001. He then studied economics at the University of Bonn and earned his Ph.D. there in 2006. Prior to joining the University of Edinburgh faculty, he held positions with the London School of Economics, University of Oxford and the University of Pennsylvania.[6][2]

He is Chairman of the Review of Economic Studies.[7] He is also on the board for the council of the European Economic Association.
