History
Pickles Auctions Pty Limited was founded in 1964 as a Stock and Station agent in Moree, NSW. The company has 23 branches nationally, including every State and Territory in the country, and a head office located in Sydney. In the 2017–2018 financial year, over 230,000 motor vehicles and trucks were sold with a gross group turnover in excess of 2.6 billion dollars.[4] The company employs more than 900 people[5] throughout Australia.
Its major clients include the Australian government, state governments, local councils, fleet and lease companies, insurance companies, financial institutions, banks, and not-for-profit organisations. Pickles is a member of the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia.
In 2015, Pickles became the only auction house in Australia to become nationally accredited to AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety System certification standards. The company also holds an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification.[6]
Innovation
Pickles has implemented various innovative technologies to expand its reach across Australia and provide flexibility for their customers. In 2004, the PicklesLIVE bidding system was introduced, allowing buyers to participate in physical auctions in real-time online – from anywhere in Australia. By 2008, approximately 600,000 items were sold through PicklesLIVE with 25% of items being won by online bidders.[7]
In late August 2008, the company launched a new channel, PicklesONLINE, for auctions conducted completely online.
Pickles has continued to transform its digital offering over the past ten years including the introduction of the DIYinspect app in 2018 and Australia's first photodome technology.
As a result of Pickles’ digital transformation, online auction sales increased to more than 41% in 2017.[8]
