Pietro D'Elia

Pietro D'Elia (born 20 April 1946 in Salerno, Italy) was an Italian international football referee.[1]

Career

He officiated 15 international matches and was member of FIFA in 1982–1992. He attributed four EURO qualifying matches 1984 (2) and 1992 (2), four World Cup qualifying matches 1986 (2) and 1990 (2)[2] and others were in friendly matches. He gave a red card in 1986 World Cup qualification match (play-off) played between Belgium-Netherlands (1:0) to Dutch Wim Kieft in 4th minute.[3] He also officiated a match in U21 Euro 1990.

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League (4), UEFA Cup (9) and Cup Winners Cup (6, includes 1992 Final).[4] He refereed 192 Serie A matches and 14 Coppa Italia matches in 1983–1992. He also officiated 1988 Supercoppa Italiana.

Personal life

After active refereeing career he began to work as a functionary in the Italy Football Federation. [5][6] In 1999 he disqualified a one-year, becauese of events that occurred in the 1996-1997 season, when he held the role of Director of CAN D referees.[7]

Awards

He was awarded Giovanni Mauro Award in 1982 that is Referee of Year in Italy
