History

A new passenger station at Portland was officially opened on June 29, 1968.[1] This replaced the old station on the waterfront. The last passenger train between Ararat and Portland was on September 12, 1981, operated by a DRC railcar.[2]

All existing signals at the former station were abolished in 1986.[3] The signal panel, which was located at the Portland Harbour Junction, was relocated to the depot building during this time.[4]
