Pouteria torta

Pouteria torta is a species of tree native to Central and South America.[1] The type subspecies Pouteria torta subsp. torta is found largely in the Brazilian cerrado, where it is known as Cerrado abiu (abiu-do-cerrado) and Axe-handle (cabo-de-machado) on account of its use in woodwork.[2] The subspecies Pouteria torta subsp. tuberculata is distributed from Mexico to the Amazon, where it is called Hairy abiu (abiu-piloso) on account of the distinct contours of the fruit's exocarp.[3]
