Prism Studios

Prism Studios was a Northern Irish video game development company founded in August 2016 and closed around December 2020, made up of eight fans of the Portal series made by Valve.

History

Prism Studios started off as a small team of fans of the Portal series. The team's first game Portal Stories: Mel is a stand-alone total conversion modification for Valve's Portal 2, which they developed for four years[1] before the game's release on 25 June 2015. The modification was well received among fans and critics, winning "Best Fan Creation" at The Game Awards 2015.[2] Portal Stories: VR, a virtual reality modification of Portal 2, was released on 16 May 2016, and is a small campaign designed for the room-scale VR that SteamVR offers.[3]

On 5 August 2016, Prism Studios switched from being a mod team to being a standalone game development company,[4] Prism Game Studios Ltd.,[5] releasing The Captives: Plot of the Demiurge in 2018. Another game, The YR-Initiative, is in development but on hold.[6]

Prism Studios closed around December 2020.[5]
