Public Health Inspector (Sri Lanka)

A Public Health Inspector (PHI) in Sri Lanka is an officer appointed by the Department of Health for control communicable disease control & to maintain public health standards in srilanka.[1][2]

PHIs are selected through an entrance exam and undertake the Public Health Inspectors’ Diploma Course at the National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) & 5 other provincial health training centers(Kurunegala, Kadugannawa, Galle, Jaffna & batticola). PHIs are assigned to different parts of the country, hospitals, departments, ports, airports and seconded to local government authorities such as Municipal Councils and MOH offices.

Uniform

PHIs wear a Khaki uniform when on duty, with a Khaki Tunic, pants and peak cap. PHIs of the Colombo Municipal Council wear white tunics with green or black epaulette.
