Raisa Modorova

Raisa Modorova is a singer from the Altai Republic of Russia. She is an overtone or throat singer. She was trained in opera in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, but later became a writer and singer of pop songs. In 1995, she had a dream which led her to take up the traditional music of Altai, despite the opposition of some patriarchal traditionalists who thought a woman should not perform this type of music.
