Synopsis

Chris Darril's Remothered: A Lamb To The Slaughter – Book 1 takes place two years after the mysterious disappearance of Celeste, Richard and Arianna Felton's only daughter, when an unexpected visit sets off a string of events filled with chilling plot twists and major revelations.

The comic book, set in between Remothered: Tormented Fathers and Remothered: Broken Porcelain, can be considered the first chapter of an authentic Director's Cut shedding light on some happenings and characters that – apparently – play a secondary role in the acclaimed survival horror saga, but are actually an integral part of its grand design of events.

Plot

1973 - Richard Felton donates his collection of various religious sculptures and paintings to a local church headed by Father Cardelli as a sign of gratitude for finding solace within the church. The priest is particularly impressed by a large painting of a Red Nun of the Cristo Morente convent holding a slaughtered lamb.

Heading back home, Felton spots a moth on a rear-view mirror of his car, which distresses him. He then a shoos away a couple of children who vandalized a wall of his villa, including a wanted poster of his missing daughter, Celeste. Felton replaces a ruined poster with a new one.

At home he is greeted by his wife, Arianna, who comments on the lack of fresh food at the house. The couple is interrupted by a news report on TV, where they learn about the fire occurred at the Ashmann Inn and the disfigurement of its owner, Stefano Ashmann. Felton worries that the accident is somehow related to his missing daughter. Later that evening, Richard, trying to put himself to sleep, looks for a bottle of Phenoxyl in his bathroom, where he spots a figure of Jennifer in the mirror, who then disappears when he turns away. The Feltons then receive a late visitor who is revealed to be Celeste. While the couple rejoice in reuniting with their lost daughter, Jennifer appears to Richard once again, warning him that the girl is now in danger.

Several hours later, Celeste is put to sleep in her old room and Arianna suggest they let the police know about the girl's return. However, Richard stops her from making a call, saying he needs to think about what to do next. Worrying about her husband's mental state, Arianna offers to call Father Cardelli for guidance. While on the phone, the woman is being watched by an unknown figure from behind the curtains. Meanwhile, Richard, unable to deal with his feelings and painful memories, takes large doses of Phenoxyl when a silhouette of the Red Nun appears behind him, promising to free him of his torment in exchange for helping her fulfil her revenge.

The next morning Arianna awaits for Father Cardelli at the front gate of the villa, while Richard keeps lying in bed with a disturbed look in his eyes. The woman notices that the priest is being late and returns to the house, while she's being observed by a shadow figure from the windows of the attic. When Arianna is about to make the call, she finds out, to her horror, that the painting of the Red Nun that Richard had given away mysteriously returned. Father Cardelli is then shown hanged from the bell tower of his church with his abdomen cut open, and the word "Closed" is written on the parish door with his blood.

Meanwhile, Celeste awakens from a nightmare showing her surrounded by a swarm of moths. When she is about to take a glass of water, she is startled by a sudden appearance of Jennifer, who warns the girl about the incoming danger of the Red Nun. She asks Celeste to come with her, promising to keep her safe as Jennifer believes the girl will set her free.

1992 - Rosemary Reed is shown reading a newspaper reporting on a recent ship crash loaded with Phenoxyl. Smoking a cigarette, the woman circles the photos of Stefano Ashmann and Richard Felton and declares that the game has begun.
