Robert Boggi

Robert Anthony Boggi (born 8 June 1955 in New York, United States) was an Italian international football referee.[1]

Career

He officiated 3 international matches[2] and was member of FIFA in 1996-1999. He attributed a match EURO 2000 qualifying match Armenia-Ukrain (0:0) [3]and others were in friendly matches. He also refereed a U21 EURO 1997 qualifying match.

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League qualification (2), UEFA Cup (2) and Intertoto Cup (2). [4] He refereed 121 Serie A matches, 6 Serie B matches and 21 Coppa Italia matches in 1989-1998. He also officiated 1997 Supercoppa Italiana match that played between Juventus and Vicenza (3:0).

Personal life

Boggi was awarded the "Giorgio Bernardi" Award in 1990, that for the best young referee debuting in Serie A. In 2006 he was appointed by the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Italian Referees Association Luigi Agnolin as the new designator of the Serie C referees. In 2012 he appointed Arbitration Observators staff of National Referees Commission (CAN A).[5]

Approach to VAR

He also strongly opposed to VAR so he spoke at Radio Punto Nuovo and said that They are killing football, they have ruined the beauty of this sport and nobody talks.[6]
