She attended college at both New York University and the University of California at Los Angeles.[1] She is most known for her young adult novels, Audrey, Wait! (2008)[2][3][4] and The Extraordinary Secrets of April, May & June (2010).[5] She also wrote the Also Known As series.[6][7] Her book, Far from the Tree,[8][9][10] won the 2017 National Book Award for Young People's Literature.[11]
