Sadanand Maiya

Sadanand Maiya is a food entrepreneur and Ready-to-eat food pioneer who founded MTR Foods and Maiyas Beverages and Foods. He established MTR Foods(the packaged foods division of MTR) in 1976 and sold it to a Norwegian company Orkla ASA in 2007 for rupees 3.64 billion. Later, he founded his new packaged food venture Maiyas Beverages and Foods after 5 years i.e. in 2012 when Non-compete clause ended between him and Orkla ASA company.[1]

Early life

Sadanand Maiya graduated in 1971 in Electrical and electronics engineering from BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru. He joined his family restaurant business immediately after his graduation. He initially worked as assistant cook at Mavalli Tiffin Room(MTR) for 2 years and later went on establishing MTR Foods in 1976. When his family split the business in 1994, he retained the ownership over MTR Foods and his cousin Harishchandra Maiya got restaurant business.[1]
