Sami Atiya

Sami Atiya (born 1964)[1] is a businessman, who is currently a Member of the Group Executive Committee of the Swedish-Swiss company ABB. He started his career at Fraunhofer Institute Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 1988, working as a Project manager. He subsequently worked as a manager at Robert Bosch and Siemens. Since April 2019, he has been President of the Robotics & Discrete Automation business and Member of the Group Executive Committee of ABB.[2]

Career

Until 1988 he studied for a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Automation from Institute of Technology, Karlsruhe, Germany. In 1993, he received his doctorate in electrical engineering with a focus on robotics, sensor technology and artificial intelligence from the University of Wuppertal and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and in 2002, he earned his MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, U.S.A.[3] After working as a project manager at the Fraunhofer Institute in Karlsruhe from 1988 to 1993, he was employed at Robert Bosch from 1994 to 1995 as a project manager in the Production and Logistics Group. Subsequently, he was Managing Director at Harald Balzer & Partner until 1997.

From 1997 he was employed by Siemens until 2014. He was Senior Vice President of Siemens Medical Solutions USA, CEO Computer Tomography, Healthcare Sector, and CEO Mobility and Logistics division, Infrastructure and Cities Sector.[4] In 2016, he became a Member of the Group Executive Committee at ABB. He was initially President in the Discrete Automation and Motion division and Robotics and Motion division. Since April 2019 he is President, Robotics & Discrete Automation business.
