Sarah Maria Griffin

Sarah Maria Griffin (c.1988), is an Irish writer, poet, and zinester living in Dublin.

Born about 1988, Griffin grew up in the Kilbarrack and Raheny areas of Dublin. Griffin holds a degree in English, Media and Cultural Studies from Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology and a Masters in Creative Writing from NUI Galway.[1] Griffin started her career writing poetry before expanding into writing articles for newspapers and other media outlets such as Buzzfeed and The Guardian.[2][3] Her first book, Not Lost: A Story About Leaving Home, was published in 2013 and is based on articles she wrote while living in San Francisco.[4] She returned to Ireland in 2015.[5]

Griffin won the 2017 European Science Fiction Awards Chrysalis Award and was the Writer-In-Residence at Maynooth University for the 2018 to 2019 academic year.[6][5][7] Her 2019 young adult novel, Other Words for Smoke, was included on the 2020 American Library Association Rainbow List.[8]

As of 2019, Griffin writes a podcast for The Irish Times.[9][1][10][11]
