The Shoe Tree

One of the trees is an old oak, which gained attention for the shoes that hikers and others have hung on it. The reason for this is unknown, but it dates back decades and has become a kind of landmark of the town.[1]

As of 6/14/2017 the shoes have all been removed from the Shoe Tree

After the county had an assessor look at the tree, it was determined that it was mostly dead and posed a hazard. Afraid that the tree might fall on someone's house, vehicle, or a person, the tree was removed.

A memorial is currently being discussed.
