Scot Davis

Scot Davis is the former wrestling head coach and legend gym teacher at [[Owatonna High School(W:886-L:124-D:1)] in Minnesota. Prior to Owatonna, he coached at Turtle Mountain Community High School [[Belcourt, ND (W:8-L:3)], Bird Island-Lake Lillian High School (Bird Island, MN (W:26-L:7-D:2)), Hutchinson High School (Hutchinson, MN (W:64-L:15-D:1)and University of Wisconsin-Superior (Superior, WI (W:7-L:7); After Owatonna, he has coached at Flathead High School (Kalispell, MT (W:12-L:11), Eden Prairie High School (Eden Prairie MN (W:78-L:20), Bishop Heelan High School (Sioux City, IA (W:29-L:7), Westwood Community High School (Sloan, Iowa (W:26-L:10), Sugar-Salem High School (Sugar City, Idaho (W:47-L:6) and now serves as Head Wrestling Coach at Indian Land High School (Indian Land, SC). Davis has coached 5 different high school wrestling programs to 5 different conference team titles (1979-212 Conference Champions at Bird Island-Lake Lillian-MN; 1985-Suburban West Conference Champions at Hutchinson, MN; 1987, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2010-Big Nine Conference Champions at Owatonna, MN; 2014, 2015, 2016 Lake Conference Champions at Eden Prairie, MN; 2020 High Country Conference Champions at Sugar-Salem High School, ID). Davis has also coached individual State Champions at 5 different High Schools (Turtle Mt Community High School-Belcourt, ND; Bird Island-Lake Lillian High School-Bird Island, MN; Owatonna High School-Owatonna, MN; Eden Prairie High School-Eden Prairie, MN; Sugar-Salem High School-Sugar City, ID). Davis is the current record holder for most wins in national high school wrestling history with an (1176-203-4) record.

Davis was a Team Captain and All-American wrestler at Augsburg College, graduating in 1974 with a B.A. Degree. He also holds an A.A. Degree from Normandale Community College (Bloomington, MN). Post-Graduate degrees include two master's degrees: M.Ed-1982 University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN) and M.A.-1995 University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN).

National honors/awards include 1986 Bob Dellinger Award, representing the "Outstanding Wrestling Writer" in the USA; Named one of the "Top Rookie College Wrestling Coaches of 1986," by NCAA News and Amateur Wrestling News; 1986 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)-District 14 "Coach of the Year:" 1998 National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) "National Coach of the Year;" 2001 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) "25-Year Service Award; 2004 Minnesota "Man of the Year" by Wrestling USA Magazine; 2006 Wrestling USA Magazine Runner-up for "National Wrestling Coach of the Year;" 2007 Wrestling USA Magazine "National Coach of the Year;" 2009 "USA Dream Team Coach" for the 13th annual "Dream Team Classic" (Stillwater, Oklahoma); Wrestling USA Magazine's "Master of Wrestling" Award; Coach Davis also served four years (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) as "USA Team Coach" to Australia and New Zealand for Down Under Sports; Appeared in Dec. 30, 2013 Sports Illustrated "Faces in the Crowd"-announcing his 1000th Win as a Wrestling Coach; Davis was presented the 2017 "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association. Note: Wife, Mary Davis, was honored with 1999 Wrestling USA Magazine's "National Coaches Wife of the Year," and inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame-Minnesota Chapter (April 25, 2020).

Hall of Fame honors include Augsburg College Wrestling "Wall of Fame;" 1998 Minnesota-Dave Bartelma Wrestling Hall of Fame; 1998 "Distinguished Alumnus" Bloomington-Kennedy High School (MN); 1998 NHSCA National Hall of Fame (Easton, PA); 2007 Region One-Mayo Civic Center Wrestling Hall of Fame; 2008 John F. Kennedy High School Athletic Hall of Fame (Bloomington, MN); 2013 National Wrestling Hall of Fame-Minnesota Chapter (Stillwater, OK); 2015 Augsburg College Athletic Hall of Fame (Minneapolis, MN).
