Seth Fleetwood

Fleetwood was born and raised in Bellingham, Washington, where he attended Sehome High School. Fleetwood earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Washington and his Juris Doctor from the Willamette University College of Law.[1]

After completing his undergraduate education, Fleetwood worked as a legislative intern in the Washington State Legislature. He later worked as a legislative aide to Congressman Al Swift.[2] Fleetwood is a Democrat.[3]

Since 1995, Fleetwood has operated his own legal practice in Bellingham.[1]

In 2002, Fleetwood was elected to the Whatcom County Council, serving until 2010. Fleetwood then served as a member of the Bellingham City Council from 2010 to 2014. In the 2014 election, Fleetwood was a candidate for the Washington State Senate, running against incumbent Republican Doug Ericksen.[4]

In the 2019 Bellingham Mayoral Election, Fleetwood defeated educator and city councilwoman April Barker to become Mayor of Bellingham, Washington. Fleetwood took office on January 1, 2020, succeeding two-term incumbent Kelli Linville, who announced her retirement in February 2019.[5][6][7]

Fleetwood has never been married and has no children. He lives in the South Hill neighborhood of Bellingham, Washington.[8]
