Shafiqul Islam (police officer)

Shafiqul Islam (born 30 October 1962) is the 34th Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He was made the DMP commissioner on 14 September 2019.[1] He previously served as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Early life

Islam was born on 30 October 1962 at Alamdanga in Chuadanga District of the then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).[2] He graduated in agriculture from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in 1984.[1] He joined Bangladesh Police force on 20 December 1987 through 8th BCS Examination.[3]

Education

He obtained BSc Agriculture (Honors) degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh and joined Bangladesh Police as the Assistant Superintendent of Police through 8th BCS. He received Basic Training from Bangladesh Police Academy, Sardah, Rajshahi and Foundation Training from Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center, Savar, Dhaka. He also received some important training from home and abroad on police matters. He also participated in various workshops and seminars at home and abroad.

Career

He joined Bangladesh Police as the Assistant Superintendent of Police through 8th BCS. He worked in various districts, units, ranges and metropolitan police with the utmost skill and reputation.

In his distinguished career he served as Superintendent of Police of Saidpur Railway District, Narayanganj District, 8th APBn (Sylhet), Patuakhali District, Police Staff College, 2nd APBn (Chittagong), Sunamganj District and Comilla District. Being Additional DIG he served as Additional Commissioner of Police, Chittagong Metropolitan Police. Later as DIG he served as Commissioner of Police, Chittagong Metropolitan Police, DIG, Chittagong Range and DIG, Dhaka Range. After being promoted to the rank of Additional IG, he served as Additional IG of Anti-Terrorism Unit, Additional IG (HRM) at Police Headquarters and Additional IG of CID. He took the charge of Commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police on 7 September 2019. In his career in Bangladesh Police he has served with great courage, skill, professionalism and integrity. In recognition of his contribution he received Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), the highest award of Bangladesh Police, for three times.

Personal life

In his personal life he is married and proud father of two daughters.
