Shishir Parkhie

Shishir Parkhie is a widely acclaimed Indian playback, ghazal,[1] bhajan[2] singer and composer of international repute having an unique distinction of being nominated twice for the prestigious GiMA awards. Trained in Hindustani classical music, Shishir has regaled and enthralled his audience across the country and abroad through his soulful and unique style of singing.

Shishir has been nominated twice in the best Ghazal album category for the prestigious Global Indian Music Academy Awards for his self composed solo Ghazal albums Roomaniyat in 2012[3] & Siyahat in the year 2015.[4][5] He is a graded artiste of All India Radio. He has performed extensively at various places all over India & his overseas Ghazal performances at Kuwait, Dimona, Ashdod, Ramla in Israel, Nairobi, Kenya, Dubai, Bahrain & Jeddah, Saudi Arabia were highly appreciated.

Early life

Born in a family with a strong musical background, Shishir received his training in music at a young age from his mother, Pratima Parkhie. His father Shri Sharad Raghunath Parkhie was working in Architecture & City Planning department as a Deputy Chief Architect at Bokaro Steel City & his mother used to sing Sugam Sangeet regularly from All India Radio, Ranchi. Shishir began learning Vocal Music and Tabla when aged six. He learnt Tabla from Shri Kedarnath Thakur for three years. Soon thereafter he gave noteworthy performances on stage. His outstanding participation in various competitions won his many accolades. His first solo concert at the age of fifteen at Bokaro was much appreciated by the Ghazal connoisseurs. He received an award from All India Radio on the occasion of International Year of the Child in 1979. Shishir completed his ICSE from St. Xavier's School (Bokaro) & later moved to Nagpur for higher studies.

Shishir completed his HSSC with General Science from Hislop College, Nagpur. Thereafter, joined Manoharbhai Patel Institute of Engineering & Technology, Gondia to pursue Bachelor in Engineering in Electronics but after completing second year he got himself transferred to Yashwantrao Chavan College of Engineering in Nagpur. He used to be a part of various music groups singing Bollywood Songs & also continued doing his solo Ghazal as well as Bhajan performances. He also lent his voice & composed several commercial jingles. He sang and composed for several programs on Doordarshan & thereafter for various Music Albums.

Shishir practices various forms of music ranging from Ghazal, Bhajans, semi-classical music to playback singing. He is also trained in Hindustani Vocal Classical Music under the guidance of Dr. Narayanrao Mangrulkar & Smt. Rekha Saney of Nagpur & completed his degree of Sangeet Visharad from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. He also learnt Keyboard for few years from Shri Bhola Ghosh when he was a part of his music group in early nineties.
