Plot

Boss, a ruthless moneylender gives Prathapa Varma, a film producer money for the film. But Prathapa Varma cheats him by not repaying the money, which angers Boss. Varma is a friend of Felix John, Commissioner of police. Boss causes mayhem on the sets of Prathapa Varma's film due to which he sends men to kill Boss. But Boss manages to defeat everyone and mocks Prathap and Felix.

Felix makes a fake case that Prathapa Varma's son Adithya Varma has gone missing and Boss is behind this. The police arrest Boss and harms him but photographic evidence proves that Prathapa Varma's son is celebrating Holi in Nagpur. Felix is forced to release Boss. On the way home Prathapa Varma blocks him. Boss reveals that after the photo was taken he had actually kidnaped Adhitya and brutally beat him up and ran a car over him thus killed him. During Adhitya's funeral Felix and Prathapa Varma doubt that Boss was part of a plot that happened a long time ago. Boss confirms this. His associates question him but Boss keeps quiet. He receives a call saying that Ayyanar has awoken. Boss goes to a house where an old man named Ayyanar is waking up but Boss calms him down by showing the photo of Adhitya dying. His associates once again question him .Boss reveals that Ayyanar is his brother. Boss then reveals his past.

Boss's real name was Devan. Devan used to live with his large family. Devan's cousin is in love with a woman named Poonkuzhali. Poonkuzhali's family declined their relationship due to caste differences. Devan and Ayyanar fights Poinkuzhali's father Rangan's henchman and convince Poonkuzhali to marry Devan's cousin. Rangan angered about this teams up with Felix and Prathapa Varma to get revenge on Devan and his family. Devan has to go to Chennai for a few days. During this time a producer asks Ayyanar for money. Ayyanar agrees but on a condition that Devan who wants to be an actor should act in the movie. Just then Rangan, Felix, Prathpa Varma and their henchmen kill the producer and fights with Ayyanar. Rangan hits a steel Rod on Ayyanar's wife, Lakshmi Ayyanar's head and she dies. Adhitya Varma and his henchman kill all the family members except Ayyanar who is stabbed. They think he is dead and go away. Devan returns that day to see his family members dead. He sees that Ayyanar is still alive and takes him to a hospital. The doctor says that everyone except Ayyanar is dead but Ayyanar will be crippled for life.

Back to the present, Felix and Prathapa Varma also find out about Boss's past. Boss kidnaps Prathapa's and Felix's friend a director. Boss also kidnaps Felix's son. They find the director heavily drunk and strapped to a chair and Felix's son dead. Felix angrily calls Boss. Boss challenges Prathapa Varma and Felix to a fight in his old house. They both agree to the challenge and goes to Boss's old house where after a big fight Boss manages to kill all of Varma's and Felix's henchman and beats up Felix. Critical response

The film received mixed reviews. Sajin Shrijith of The New Indian Express gave 1.5 out of 5 stars stating "Shylock is an exuberant celebration of Mammootty, the star, that attempts to milk his charisma to the fullest".[16] Anjana George of The Times of India gave 3 out of 5 stars stating "For the fans of 'mega star Mammootty', Shylock is a treat and for the followers of actor Mammootty, this is a complete 'no'."[17]

Cris from The News Minute rated 3.5 out of 5 and wrote: "Yet another Mammootty 'mass' movie that numbs the mind ... This is that kind of a movie - it is forgettable, it is done to death… it is running out of boring descriptions for itself".[18] Manoj Kumar R. of The Indian Express rated 1 out of 5 star and said: "Ajai Vasudev has served up another snoozefest ... Shylock is a mess. You know this story. You know how things would pan out. And you know what happens to the bad guys even before the film arrives at its depressingly predictable climax".[19]

Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost rated 0.25 out of 5 stars and wrote that "To compensate perhaps for the absolute lack of novelty in the script, camerawork and all else here, multiple references are made to other films and their Tamil superstars ... The music of Shylock is so painful and the narrative so clichéd, that if this were an Easter week release, Jesus might have raced back into his tomb begging never to be resurrected. And don't get my imagination started on paavam William Shakespeare's reaction to the appropriation of one of his most famous characters for this story's protagonist".[20]
