Sitara: Let Girls Dream is a 2020 Pakistani computer animated short film directed and written by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The plot revolves around six-year-old Mehr and her 14-year-old sister Pari.[1][2]

Plot

The short film takes on a journey through the old city of Lahore, where, Pari, a fourteen-year-old girl dreams of becoming a pilot and whose story is told through the perspective of her younger sister, Mehr. Pari whose dream of being a pilot is crushed when she is forced into child marriage. Sitara: Let Girls Dream is a silent film that highlights the burdens of a family as well as the impact of a culture where girls are still struggling to fully realize their dreams.

Release

Gucci hosted a special screening for the film at 2020 Sundance Film Festival in connection to their campaign #LetGirlsDream. It was released on 8 March 2020 on Netflix on the occasion of International Women's Day.[1]
