Smart shoe

Smart shoes is a smart footwear technology. It adopts smartphone applications to support tasks cannot be done with standard footwear. The uses shows vibrating of the smart phone to tell users when and where to turn to reach their destination via Google Maps or self-lacing.[1][2][3]

History

Smart shoes, also known as "Lechal shoes" (meaning: take me along) were described as "interactive haptic footwear".[4][5][6] They were introduced in Hyderabad, India in July 2014.[7][8][9][10]

Use

The smart shoe is an insole. The insole connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth. For navigation, once the route has been selected, the insole directs the wearer by buzzing the shoes. The insole is capable of counting steps taken and calculating calories burned.[7][8][2][9]

Self-lacing sneaker technology, similar to the Nike Mag in Back to the Future Part II, is another use of the smart shoe. In 2019 German footwear company Puma was recognized as one of the "100 Best Inventions of 2019" by Time for its Fi laceless shoe that uses micro-motors to adjust the fit from an iPhone.[11] Nike also introduced a smart shoe in 2019 known as Adapt BB. The shoe featured buttons on the side to loosen or tighten the fit with a custom motor and gear, which could also be controlled by a smartphone.[12]
