Smit Singh

Smit started his international sporting career by participation in the Asian Shooting Championships in December 2007.[5] He won the first international medal at Asian Clay Shooting Championships, February 2008. Later in the year, he won Silver and Bronze medal at the South Asian Shooting Championships, November 2008.[6][7] He won India its first world-level medal in skeet shooting with a bronze trophy at International Junior Cup, Orimattila, Finland, July 2011.[8]

Smit is the present National Games champion, he won two gold medals at the 35th National Games, Kerala, in February 2015.[9][10][11][12] Smit qualified for the finals at Commonwealth Games 2018, along with participating in numerous other international events for India.[13][14][15][16][17][18]

An Indian Express report suggests that Smit interns with social movements during his time off from representing India at international sports championships, working with NGOs in field of educating orphan children, environmental awareness campaigns and rehabilitation work for people, such as one’s negatively affected by the large scale Dams built in the Narmada Valley.[19]

Smit advised the Government of Punjab on Municipal Solid Waste and Water Management.[20] On 9 July 2019 Smit was awarded with the Government of Punjab‘s highest civilian honour, the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award for his contribution in the field of sports.[21][22][23]
