Characters

Main Cast

Shiraori (白織, Shiraori) / White (, Shiro)
Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka[2][3] (PV & CM), Aoi Yūki[4] (anime) (Japanese); Brianna Knickerbocker[5] (English)
Nicknamed "Kumoko" by the fandom; she is reincarnated as a spider monster in the most dangerous dungeon in the world, where she constantly fights to survive and slowly evolves into an incredibly powerful being. After finally escaping, she meets Ariel and eventually makes her way up to becoming the commander of the 10th Demon Army. Initially implied to be the reincarnation of Hiiro Wakaba, she is later revealed to have actually been just an ordinary spider who was in the classroom at the time. She eventually transcends the limits of the world's RPG system, ascending to godhood and gaining a human form.
Ariel (アリエル, Arieru)
The current demon king and progenitor of all the spider monsters in the world.
Sophia Keren (ソフィア・ケレン, Keren Sofia) / Negishi Shouko (根岸彰子, Shouko Negishi)
One of the classmates, nicknamed "Vampy" by Kumoko. She gets reincarnated as a vampire born to human parents due to a mutation. A victim of bullying in her previous life, she dislikes anyone who brings up her former self. She met Kumoko when she was young and was taken in by her after her home was destroyed in a war. She is also the true antagonist of the secondary storyline, manipulating Hugo for her own ends.
Merazophis (メラゾフィス, Merazofisu)

Secondary Cast

Schlain Zagan Analeit (シュレイン・ジャガン・アナレイト, Shurein Jagan Anareito) / Shunsuke Yamada (山田 俊介, Yamada Shunsuke)
Voiced by: Shun Horie[6] (anime)
One of the classmates and the main protagonist of the secondary storyline, nicknamed "Shun". He was reincarnated as the fourth prince of the Kingdom of Analeit. Despite his position, he retains the same kind and dense personality as his previous life. He later inherits the hero title following the death of his older brother, Julius, and ends up having to flee his Kingdom after Hugo frames him for committing a coup détat.
Karnatia Seri Anabald (カルナティア・セリ・アナバルド, Karunatia Seri Anabarudo) / Kanata Ōshima (大島 叶多, Ōshima Kanata)
Voiced by: Nao Tōyama[6]
One of the classmates, nicknamed "Katia". She is reincarnated as the daughter of the noble house in the Kingdom of Analeit. She suffers from gender dysphoria due to having been a man in her previous life, which only grows more complicated when she starts developing romantic feelings for Schlain. Ultimately, she resolves that her past self is dead and fully embraces her new gender.
Feirune (フェイルネ, Feirune) / Mirai Shinohara (漆原美麗, Shinohara Mirai)
Voiced by: Eri Kitamura[6] (anime)
One of the classmates, nicknamed "Fei". She got reincarnated in the body of Schlain's pet Earth Wyrm. A bully in her previous life, she sees her current predicament as a divine punishment and vows to better herself in this new life. After Schlain became the new Hero, she evolved into a Holy Wyrm and also gained the ability to assume a human form.
Filimøs Harrifenas (フィリメス・ハリフェナス, Firimesu Harifenasu) / Kanami Okazaki (岡崎 香奈美, Okazaki Kanami)
Voiced by: Kaya Okuno[6]
The class' homeroom teacher, nicknamed "Ms. Oka". She got reincarnated as an Elf and a direct offspring of the Elf Patriarch. Using a unique skill that allows her to identify reincarnations and have authority over them, she has been searching the world for her students.
Hugo Baint von Renxandt (ユーゴー・ベイント・フォン・レンクサンド, Hūgo Beinto von Renkusando) / Natsume Kengo (夏目健吾, Kengo Natsume)
Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa[6]
One of the classmates and the main antagonist of the secondary storyline. He got reincarnated as the first prince of Renxandt Empire. Already egotistical in his previous life, his new royal upbringing turned him into a megalomaniac. Jealous of Schlain's popularity, he tried to have him assassinated, but it failed and he was stripped of his skills by Filimøs. However, this only caused him to vow vengeance and, manipulated by Sophia, uses his connections to launch a coup détat within the Kingdom of Analeit while framing Schlein. Afterward, he falsely proclaims himself the new Hero.
Suelecia Analeit (スエレシア・アナレイト, Suereshia Anareito)
Voiced by: Yui Ogura[6]
The second princess of the Kingdom of Analeit and Schlain's younger half-sister, nicknamed "Sue". She is a yandere with a brother complex, which is obvious to everyone except Schlain. She was later seemingly brainwashed and forced to assassinate their father while framing Schlain. However, it is later revealed that she wasn't being controlled at all and willingly cooperated with Sophia.
Yuri Ullen (ユーリ・ウレン, Yūri Uren) / Yuika Hasebe (長谷部結花, Hasebe Yuika)
Voiced by: Aimi Tanaka[6]
One of the classmates. She got reincarnated as a child of a poor family who abandoned her to the Word of God religion, where she eventually made her way up to saintess candidate. Scared and alone, she desperately clung to the only Japanese-speaking thing around her: the system voice of the world's RPG system. This, along with her upbringing, caused her to turn into a religious fanatic.
Julius Zagan Analeit (ユリウス・ジャガン・アナレイト, Yuriusu Jagan Anareito)
Voiced by: Junya Enoki[6]
The former second prince of the Kingdom of Analeit and the previous Hero as well as Shun's older brother, whom the latter greatly looked up to. He once fought Kumoko when he was young and almost died by her hand, causing him to develop mild arachnophobia. When war broke out between the humans and demons, he was killed by a mysterious white girl later revealed to be Shiraori.

Others

D (D, Dee) / Hiiro Wakaba (若葉姫色, Wakaba Hiiro)
Voiced by: Aoi Yūki[7]
One of the classmates. She was initially implied to be Kumoko's past self and appeared to be an Otaku who was a victim of bullying. However, she is later revealed to actually be a high-ranking god in disguise. In reality, she was revered by her classmates and her would-be bullies were merely jealous. She is the creator of the world's RPG system and the one who reincarnated her classmates, all for her own entertainment. She also gave Kumoko her memories to keep herself hidden, and ends up taking a liking to the spider.
Güliedistodiez (ギュリエディストーディエズ, Gyuriedisutodiezu)
A god who takes on the form of a man dressed in black armor and is the ruler of the dragons, nicknamed "Gülie" by Ariel and "Kuro" by Kumoko. He acts as D's enforcer in maintaining the world's RPG system. While concerned that the reincarnations might upset the world's balance, he has been ordered by D to not interfere.

Anime

It was reported on July 6, 2018 that the series would receive an anime adaptation, according to an early look at the wraparound jacket band on the fifth volume of the manga adaptation.[9] The report was confirmed at Kadokawa's booth at Anime Expo later the same day, and it was announced that the adaptation would be a television series.[56] Originally set to premiere in 2020,[57] it was rescheduled to premiere on January 8, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[58] The two-cour series is animated by Millepensee and directed by Shin Itagaki, with Okina Baba and Yūichirō Momose overseeing the series' scripts, and Kii Tanaka designing the characters, and Shūji Katayama composing the series' music. Jōtarō Ishigami is producing the series.[6] The opening theme song is "keep weaving your spider way" performed by Riko Azuna, while the ending theme song is "Do Your Best! Kumoko-san's Theme" (がんばれ!蜘蛛子さんのテーマ, "Ganbare! Kumoko-san no Tēma") performed by I (Aoi Yūki).[59] It is licensed by Crunchyroll outside Asia.[60] Medialink has licensed the series in Southeast Asia, and is streaming it on their Ani-One YouTube channel and Bilibili.[61]
