Overview

Spinn Inc was founded in 2014 by Roderick de Rode, Serge de Warrimont and Roland Verbeek.[4][5]

Spinn is said to provide its users with a curated coffee roaster platform through which the users are given various choices about their coffee,[6] and this platform is currently said to have over 150 connected roasters[7] for fulfilling the users’ coffee bean orders as of 2017.[8][9]

Technology

Spinn's coffee maker uses patented centrifugal brewing process and an integrated grinder.[4] The centrifugal technology is said to variable stepless rotating speed between 500 rpm to 8000 rpm,[10] the decides the extraction level, and amount of coffee and water used.[2]

This coffee maker is app-controllable,[11] and every aspect from ordering and brewing to coffee preparation can be controlled through Spinn's proprietary iOS and Android-based mobile application.[4][12] This app is also said to have the Alexa integration feature,[8] which allows the users to talk to their coffee makers.[12]

Production for the Spinn coffee maker has been significantly delayed.[13] Spinn has been taking pre-orders for their coffee maker since 2016, though an original shipping date of mid-2017 was missed, and as of January 2019, customers have not yet received their orders.[14] While the company started shipping a small number of machines for beta testing in early 2018, many of their crowdfunding backers have become restless due to the delay. As of Jan 2020, Spinn has not yet announced shipping dates. Inquiries from customers receive a canned response blaming delays going back several years on Covid-19.[13]
