Producers Ram Achanta and Gopichand Achanta, initially wanted Nani to star in the project, directed by debutant filmmaker Kishore Reddy, where Nani essayed to play the role of a farmer.[6] However, due to his busy commitments in other projects, the makers roped in Sharwanand as the leading role.[7] Titled Sreekaram, the film was launched formally with a puja ceremony on 30 June 2019,[8] at the office of 14 Reels Plus, the production house belonged to its producers Ram and Gopichand Achanta,[9] and Sukumar graced the pooja ceremony by clapping the first shot of the film.[10]

With Priyanka Arul Mohan,[11] was announced as the female lead in July 2019,[12] the regular shooting of the film was commenced on August 2019 in Hyderabad.[13] Village portions were scheduled to be filmed near Anantapur and Tirupati and were shot in November 2019.[14][15]

The final leg of the film's shoot was scheduled for 18 March 2020 at Hyderabad, and planned to film a 20-day long schedule at Tirupati.[16] However, the shoot was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in India. The team planned to commence the final schedule on September 2020, post-lockdown, adhering to the safety guidelines ensured by the government to curb the coronavirus pandemic.[17] On 8 October 2020, Sharwanand resumed the final leg of shoot on Tirupati,[18] and completed the shoot within 20 days.[19]

The music for the film is composed by Mickey J. Meyer. On 5 November 2020, the makers released the promo of the first single titled as "Bhalegundi Baalaa",[20] which had lyrics written by Penchal Das, also providing the male vocals of the song, while female vocals were rendered by Nutana Mohan. The full song was released by Lahari Music on 9 November 2020.[21] On 7 January 2021, the makers unveiled the promo of the song "Sandalle Sandalle" which had lyrics written by Sanapati Bharadwaj Patrudu, and vocals by Anurag Kulkarni and Mohana Bhogaraju, and the full song was released the same day.[22]

The film was originally scheduled to release on the Sankranthi occasion, although in order to avoid clash with Sarileru Neekevvaru, the makers postponed its release to summer.[23] On 1 February 2020, the makers announced the release date as 24 April 2020.[24] However, the release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In September 2020, the filmmakers entered discussions to release the film via over-the-top media services.[25]
